home sweet home

2022

it smells like

rotting fruit and rancid dreams

insulation bulges through tattered walls

a house eviscerated

guts on display for the world to see

cobwebs mark intersections

of this wall and that

corners make great homes

for things that crawl

and things that die

rapunzel rapunzel let down your hair

each day within these walls is

the same the same the same

the unceasing world moves and moves

her hair only grows and grows

the mess keeps coming

back and back and back and back

futility settles like the dust

thickly

perpetually

but remember:

beyond the front door

whose tired joints creak in the wind

there is a big world that moves and moves

one day you will join in its rhythms
