i explore 

the cosmos

by watching 

a snail

     c r a w l

this assemblage 

of stardust 

housed 

in spiral armor 

gliding 

     languorously 

          across dappled stone

this stone that fits 

so snugly 

in the palms of the curious 

weathered 

     by tides 

of ocean 

     and millennia 

carrying boundless histories 

                                                  deep 

                                             in its pockets 

beckoning me 

to forget 

the things 

i’ve learned
