it gets a little less lonely when

i place palm over tummy and

remember the tiny creatures

burbling just beneath

battling disease, furnishing nutrients, repelling depression

such life-sustaining labor 

 

how can we speak of the self

when trillions of stars

dot the milky ways 

of our insides
